# Use eesel from ChatGPT

Use eesel from ChatGPT and Codex: set eesel up from Codex with the eesel CLI, or chat with your AI agent inside ChatGPT through the eesel apps.

There are two different things people mean by this. Both work, differently.

One is setting eesel up from Codex, ChatGPT's coding agent, with the eesel CLI. The other is talking to an agent you already have from inside a ChatGPT conversation. Either way it is the same eesel agent, with the same instructions and knowledge as in your dashboard.

## Setting eesel up with Codex

Codex is ChatGPT's coding agent: it runs in your terminal or on a repo you point it at. It sets eesel up the same way Claude Code does, with the eesel CLI. Paste this into Codex:

> Add eesel's AI support chat bubble to this site. Run `npx @eesel/cli login`, then `npx @eesel/cli init chat-bubble --site <our site>`, paste the snippet it prints into the site, and test it with `npx @eesel/cli chat`. The steps are at <https://docs.eesel.ai/apis-and-developer-resources/set-up-from-a-coding-agent>

The login opens a browser once (or prints a link with `--no-browser`); everything after that is a command that prints JSON, so Codex can run the whole job and read its own results. The full walkthrough, including a helpdesk and Slack, is on [Set up from Claude Code or the terminal](/getting-started/set-up-from-a-coding-agent.md); it applies to Codex, Cursor and any other coding agent word for word.

## Talking to your agent inside ChatGPT

eesel's apps for ChatGPT let you chat with your eesel agent from a ChatGPT conversation: ask it what's in your helpdesk, have it draft a reply, check what it has been doing. They're built per helpdesk (Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Front and Gmail), and each signs you in with your eesel account through OAuth, so you get exactly the access you have in the dashboard: editors can change things, viewers can ask.

They're being listed in ChatGPT's app directory. Once your helpdesk's app is there: in ChatGPT, open **Settings > Apps & connectors**, find eesel, connect, and approve the sign-in on the eesel page that opens. Then ask ChatGPT something like "ask eesel what's waiting on me" or "have eesel draft a reply to ticket 4521".

Until the listing is live, the fastest way to reach your agent from a chat app is the [Claude connector](/apis-and-developer-resources/use-eesel-from-claude-and-other-assistants.md), or the CLI's `eesel chat` from a terminal.

## Which one should I use?

* To **set eesel up**, or change its setup from a repo: Codex with the CLI.
* To **use** an agent that's already set up, from wherever you're chatting: the app.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.eesel.ai/apis-and-developer-resources/use-eesel-from-chatgpt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
